NDP calls for Ford government to release documents being withheld from LTC Commission

QUEEN’S PARK — The NDP is calling for the Ford government to immediately release all documents that have been requested by the LTC Commission, following revelations by Queen’s Park Briefing that the commission itself says the government has refused to cooperate.
“A government that truly wants answers doesn’t work this hard to hide the facts,” said NDP Deputy Leader John Vanthof, who made the demand in question period on Monday.
“People living in long-term care continue to suffer and die, while Doug Ford’s government plays politics with information that could reveal changes that need to be made to protect people,” said NDP Long Term Care critic Teresa Armstrong.
In a Nov. 5 commission hearing, Justice Frank Marrocco pointed out that “We have numerous outstanding requests for documents.”
Queen’s Park Briefing sought further information, and was told by a spokesperson for the government’s Long-Term Care Commission that there are several long-standing requests for “significant volumes” of documents still being withheld by the Ford government, and that delay is “impeding the commission in its work.”
